The Tirupattur THENKOODU SANGAM was established in the year 2007, December 26 and was registered as a non government organization under Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act, 1975 (Tamil Nadu Act 27 Of 1975). This society has emerged out of the work done by SURABI (Program Project funded by DMOS), Sacred Heart College Society, Tirupattur and Auxilium ITI, Tirupattur. These Societies constantly offer consultancy and monitoring. Tirupattur THENKOODU SANGAM resolved to furnish the developmental needs of the self help members. The life of the rural people belongs to this locality was miserable. These people were the victims of ruthless exploitation and manipulation and the small scale farmers were having a hand to mouth existence and were immersed in debts all along their life. The women of the area were a double jeopardy, of weaker sex and at the same time having to put in hard manual labour to fetch a subsistence level of income to the family. Development work among these groups was chosen as the entry point programme by the society.

This society was started by the Self help groups and its federation members. The governing body members of the society were elected by the self help group members. It keeps a broad humanitarian outlook by reaching out the people irrespective of the difference in terms of religion, caste and region. It has placed hands on research in the field of agriculture, transferring technology to the rural people, skill trainings to the BPL people in the municipalities in and around Tirupattur and business promotion to the our own SHG members. Tirupattur THENKOODU SANGAM has also been included in the core supported schemes and declared from NABARD, District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), District Industries Centre (DIC), Coir Board, BDO offices and Municipalities. The Sangam has become agency to give comprehensive solution to the SHG’s developmental activities and their problems. Tirupattur Thenkoodu Sangam has developed supporting institution for the sustainable growth of the organization.
